ART
The Art program is designed to help students acquire the necessary skills, knowledge and understanding to express their talents through art. This process will encourage the development of their perception, judgment, creativity and imagination. The students will learn basic art concepts through a progression of age appropriate projects, using a wide variety of media.
BAND
Students will learn the fundamental skills needed to play in a band setting. The teacher will develop the student as a musician, through practice and by playing a wide variety of music, to help the student perform to the best of his/her ability. This course is offered to fifth grade only.
COMPUTER
The Computer course is designed to develop computer skills at the early age of kindergarten five. Elementary Computer is a building block that goes through the fifth grade. Computer is a resource lab that reinforces the students’ knowledge for every grade level. Students are first introduced to computer software games which increase their motor and analytical skills. Students in first grade learn about the parts of the computer. Students learn about sentence structure, while typing about God’s creation in second grade. Third graders type complete sentences about reptiles, amphibians, etc. Students make tables for North Carolina History in the fourth grade. Students write essays for their Nations Notebooks in the fifth grade.
LIBRARY
In the Library students are introduced to the world of books. Students in Pre-Kindergarten through second grade have the opportunity to check out books weekly. They may choose from picture books, early readers, beginning chapter books, non-fiction books and biographies. Students in third through fifth grades learn how to locate a book using computer software cataloging system and/or the Dewey Decimal system of classifying and filing books. Weekly check out encourages students to choose a variety of books throughout the school year.
MUSIC
In the Music program, the students are exposed to a wide range of music including Classical, Jazz and other types of Contemporary Music, World Music, Folk songs, Hymns and Spiritual Songs. The students experience and create music with the goal to sing on pitch and read music by the time they finish fourth grade.
