The English course is a balance presentation of the language arts encompassing spelling, vocabulary, grammar mechanics, reading and creative writing. The curriculum is taught in accordance with application to speaking and writing.
7th
The English course is a continuation of language arts skills taught in the sixth grade and the elementary school. Subjects covered are spelling, vocabulary development, grammar mechanics, writing skills and a transition from reading to literature. The curriculum is Bible-based and focuses on the life application of language arts skills to both the written and the spoken word.
8th
The English course is taught with a desire to develop a life-long appreciation for quality literature. The curriculum includes both fiction and nonfiction emphasizing Christian character-building principles. The study includes the novel, short story, poetry and biography. Students will also continue to study grammar with an emphasis on becoming strong writers. Honors English teaches additional literature and in depth composition.
ENGLISH 9 / HONORS ENGLISH 9
Prerequisite: Honors 9 - A in 8th grade English or A / B in 8th grade Honors English
Eligibility: 9
The English/Honors English courses involve training in how to think and write on the literal and on the critical level, through extensive grammar review, composition, vocabulary and literature. The Honors English course incorporates deeper level discussions, tests and additional projects.
ENGLISH 10 / HONORS ENGLISH 10
Prerequisite: Honors English 10 – A in English 9 or A / B in Honors English 9
Eligibility: 10
The English/Honors English courses are a study of world literature, composition, grammar and vocabulary. Because of the extensive study of grammar in previous years, the focus for the course is on expository writing and the research paper. The Honors English course reads an additional novel and is required to write additional compositions.
ENGLISH 11 / HONORS ENGLISH 11
Prerequisite: Honors English 11 – A in English 10 or A / B in Honors English10

ENGLISH 12 / HONORS ENGLISH 12
Prerequisite: Honors English 12 – A in English 11 or A / B in Honors English 11

The English/Honors English courses offer a review of grammar with emphasis upon composition, higher levels of thinking such as synthesis and evaluation and English literature. The students will study selections and historical background materials from each period. All material will be viewed in relationship to the Bible. The Honors English class incorporates deeper level discussions, tests and additional projects.
AP ENGLISH
Prerequisite: A in Honors English 11; teacher recommendation
Eligibility: 12
The AP English course emphasizes composition, higher levels of thinking such as synthesis and evaluation and English literature. The students will study selections and historical background materials from each period. All material will be viewed in relationship to the Bible. This course prepares the student to take the AP exam in the spring for college credit.
