ART 6th-8th
In the Art course students are provided with a general overview of major methods and media in the area of studio art. The student will create original artworks in drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery, sculpture and crafts. They will also be introduced to the basic elements and principles of art as well as exposure to famous artists and their work. The goal of the class will be for the student to gain an understanding of art fundamentals and techniques, in a fun, positive and spiritually enriching environment. Creative thinking problem solving as well as analytical, interpretive and perceptive abilities will be developed and strengthened. All students will be encouraged to bring glory to God through their talents.
ART I, II, III, IV
Prerequisite: Interest in Art; satisfactory completion of each preceding level
Eligibility: 9, 10, 11, 12
The Art program is designed for students who express an interest in exploring different methods and media in the area of studio art. The program begins with a general survey of various methods and media. The students will create original artworks in drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery, sculpture, crafts and graphic arts. The students will learn the basic elements and principles of art as well as be exposed to the major artists and art movements, both past and present, that have helped define art history. The goal of Art I is for students to have a general grasp of art fundamentals and techniques, while gaining an appreciation of the Fine Arts in a positive and spiritual enriching environment. The projects with each progressing level are more challenging and the expectations are higher than the previous level. As students progress to Art III, they will correctly incorporate the basic elements and principles of art in their work. These students will begin to develop a more specialized area of interest and improve on their own individual style. Creative thinking, problem solving, as well as, analytical, interpretive and perceptive abilities will be developed and strengthened. All students will be encouraged to bring glory to God through their God given talents.
Prerequisite: A in Art III; teacher recommendation
Eligibility: 12
The AP Art course is comprised of experienced art students who are serious about developing their artistic gifts. Projects will be more challenging and individualized at this level. The students will build on their knowledge by creating original artworks in drawing, painting, printmaking, pottery, sculpture, crafts and graphic arts. The students will correctly incorporate the basic elements and principles of art in their work. They will continue to expand on their knowledge of famous artists and art movements, both past and present. The goal of this class is for students to develop a more specialized area of interest and complete a portfolio to be submitted for grading and possible college credit. Creative thinking, problem solving, as well as, analytical, interpretive and perceptive abilities will be developed and strengthened. All students will be encouraged to bring glory to God through their talents.
BAND 6th-8th
Students will learn the fundamental skills needed to play in a band. The teacher will develop the student as a musician through practice and playing a wide variety of music helping the student perform to the best of his/her ability.
The Chorus course is designed to actively engage students in the study and performance of both sacred and secular music. Musical knowledge of expressions and the mechanics behind the technique of proper singing will be taught to enhance musicianship and performance. It is hoped that students will leave with the skills that will enable them to be versatile, competent and confident in their knowledge of a wide spectrum of music. Various programs and activities will be included and students will have the opportunity to attend and compete at a Choral Music Festival.
BAND I, II, III, IV
Prerequisite: Interest in Band; satisfactory completion in preceding level
Eligibility: 9, 10, 11, 12
Students will learn the fundamental skills needed to play in a band. The teacher will develop the student as a musician through practice and playing a wide variety of music, helping the student perform to the best of his/her ability.
DRAMA / CHORUS I, II, III, IV
Prerequisite: Interest in Drama / Chorus; satisfactory completion of preceding level
Eligibility: 9, 10, 11, 12
The Drama/Chorus program is designed to actively engage students in the study and performance of sacred and secular music and give them the experience of interpreting different plays, musicals and monologues. Musical knowledge of expressions and the mechanics behind the technique of proper singing will be taught to enhance musicianship and performance. Students are given the opportunity to learn how to appreciate the various art forms and all the work that goes on behind and in front of the curtain. They gain valuable experience in producing their own drama/music productions, which are presented to audiences throughout the school year. Students will develop the skills that will enable them to be versatile, competent and confident in their knowledge of a wide spectrum of music/drama and will be given the opportunity to attend educational workshops.
JOURNALISM / NEWSPAPER I, II, III, IV
Prerequisite: Interest in writing and publication; completion of application; satisfactory completion of preceding level
Eligibility: 9, 10, 11, 12
The Journalism/Newspaper class develops skills in interviewing, writing and editing articles, meeting deadlines and formatting layouts. Students learn how to use desktop publishing to produce their page while incorporating newspaper design elements and headline styles. Students learn the values of character, commitment, time-management and teamwork in producing a newspaper.
JOURNALISM / YEARBOOK I, II, III, IV
Prerequisite: Interest in writing and publication; completion of application; satisfactory completion of preceding level
Eligibility: 9, 10, 11, 12
The Journalism/Yearbook classes develop skills in layout design, writing, proofreading, photojournalism, computer and ad sales. Students will be assigned layouts in all levels of the school and will learn style and theme development for those schools. Students will learn the values of diligence, responsibility, accountability, commitment and teamwork in producing a quality yearbook.
