6th
The Science course presents the world as the direct Creation of God that students can observe, handle and understand. They learn to recognize flowering plants, common trees and a variety of invertebrates. They delve into the wonders of the earth like magnetism, volcanoes, earthquakes, rocks and caves. Outer space, stars, planets, light and motion are tied into the study of the space program. Projects, demonstrations and experiments enhance their studies at school and home.

The Science text and course study, Order and Reality, introduces the Scientific Method and gives the student opportunity, through lab and classroom exercises, to apply these principles. The fields of study are soil science, botany, anatomy, physical science, atmospheric science, classification, microscopy, creation and insects.

The Science text and study course Matter and Motion in God’s Universe lays a firm foundation in the field of physics. Through exploring the motions of the universe, solids, fluids, heat, birds, magnetism and electricity students will develop an increased appreciation for the wonders of God’s creation. The endless wisdom and creativity of God is displayed through a practical application of challenging concepts.
PHYSICAL SCIENCE
Prerequisite: None
Eligibility: 9
The Physical Science course is an introduction to chemistry and physics. Chemistry is studied first semester and is taught from a Christian perspective; orderliness in the submicroscopic level reflects the infinite wisdom of an infinite Creator. Students are given study notes on each chapter or unit. Mini-labs help the student witness principles up-close. Physics is taught second semester and is also taught from a Christian perspective. Understanding energy, the ability to do work, helps to visualize an all powerful Creator.
BIOLOGY / HONORS BIOLOGY
Prerequisite: Honors Biology – A in preceding science course
Eligibility: 10
The Biology/Honors Biology courses are a study of cells, genetics, microbes, protozoan, plants and animals. The students will learn how to use a microscope and how to make slides. Honors Biology is a more in-depth study with an essay component used for testing.
CHEMISTRY
Prerequisite: Algebra II credit or concurrent enrollment in Algebra II
Eligibility: 11, 12
The Chemistry course is a study of substances; what they are made of, how they react, and how they change. The fundamental ideas of chemistry deal with the nature of elements and the ways in which elements combine to form compounds. Some topics discussed include atomic theory, equations, the periodic table, acid-base theories and chemical bonding.
PHYSICS
Prerequisite: Modeling Functions or Pre-Calculus or concurrent enrollment in either
Eligibility: 12
The Physics course covers the study of energy. The students will see how God endowed the universe with all types of energy to enable it to run its course. Forces bonding the nuclei of atoms as well as forces that keep the planets in orbit around the sun are studied keeping in mind that God is the source of all power in the entire universe.
AP CHEMISTRY
Prerequisite: A in Chemistry; teacher recommendation
Eligibility: 12
The objective of the AP Chemistry course is to continue preparing students who plan to attend a university or college system for study in Science and/or Engineering. Students are encouraged to take the AP Chemistry Exam given in May.
